TASK FOR WEEK 2: COMPLETE BY THE BEGINNING OF YOUR NEXT STUDIO

Meet in room 2001 at 3.30pm

Task for the week:

1. In your groups choose 5 topics from the list below. These topics will become the subject of your bloging for the next two weeks.

A. Synchronous Messaging; e.g. Skype, Team Speak, MSN
B. Collaborative Document Editing; e.g. Wikis, Google Documents
C. Shared Repositories; Youtube, Google 3d Warehouse, Filefront, Fileplanet
D. Social Networks; Facebook, MySapce
E. Virtual Worlds; Second Life, Sony at Home
F. Asynchronous Messaging; Email, Forums, Fax, Blog

2. Brainstorm additional examples for each topic.

3. Assign one topic to each of your team members.

4. Watch the General Workflow tutorial from the UT3 set (Getting Started Tutorial 002) then explore, in teams, the Falling Water model reflecting on the environment with respect to the workflow presented. The group should then explore how a project (like the Falling Water model) could be split into parts.

5. At 5pm you will be presenting your individual proposals for the Unbuilt Architectural project to your group supervisor.

6. Follow these presentations with a discussion on which one will become the group project for the semester.

Independent Study: (Complete by the beginning of studio class on Wednesday April 2)

1. On your blog, compare and contrast the different instruments in the topic assigned to you in terms of collaboration. Look for academic papers or reports that discuss the role of these instruments in terms of collaboration. Cite at least 3 of these references to support your argument. Write 700 words plus quotes, images and/or video to suit.

2. Complete the “Getting Started” video tutorials 001 to 010 for the Unreal Editor that ship with the special edition of UT3. You should do this in groups but each of you should have your own version of a room in UT3.

Note: The themes for each presentation are now locked in. You can see them in the course outline and the wiki brief here:
